GAAPA General Membership Meeting

We were excited to have Mr. Dick Viti to speak at our GAAPA meeting. 

 Mr. Viti is an instructor for AREA.  He comes to us as a concerned appraiser with a background in instruction.

 His qualifications are:             

• BBA in Real Estate from Florida Atlantic University

• Juris Doctor from Atlanta Law School

• Real Estate Broker – Georgia and Florida for over 35 years

• Real Estate Appraiser – Georgia for over 35 years (Certified General)

• Instructor – Real Estate and Appraisal Instructor in Georgia and Florida

• Instructor – National AQB Certified USPAP Instructor

 Mr. Viti spoke to GAAPA members on several topics and gave us a brief overview of the two panels in Georgia, the Real Estate Commission and the Real Estate Appraisers Board.  He addressed the importance of staying informed on agency actions.   He reviewed a recent article by the GREC on the Opinions of Value (BPO’s), as well as a discussion of the harm to appraisers posed by this article certainly encourage our understanding of the rules and laws governing us.

The policy for guests/visitors has been amended to the following:

Attend a general membership meeting at no charge 2 day pre-registration required

First meeting free for any guest; subsequent meetings as a guest $20.

Attend a training seminar for a $10 fee 10 day pre-registration required

First training seminar $10 for any non-member; subsequent non-member training $25 and up.

Jeff Ledford is Real Estate Commissioner for the state of Georgia.  In that position he serves as the Executive Officer for the Georgia Real Estate Commission and the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board.  His administrative responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the state agency responsible for implementing the license law regulating Georgia's over 100,000 real estate brokers and salespersons and the law regulating Georgia's 7,000 real estate appraisers.

And, on September 8, 2009 GAAPA speaker will be Rod Carnes, a deputy from the Department of Banking & Finance (DBF), and will speak about the fraud investigations.
